CP Orutugu assures of peaceful Governorship Poll

As part of sustained efforts to guarantee a hitch-free and credible governorship election in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu on Monday, October 20, 2025, embarked on a comprehensive operational tour and readiness assessment across Police Area Commands in the state.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the tour, which commenced at the Onitsha Area Command, featured high-visibility patrols through major routes and strategic flashpoints. CP Orutugu personally led his team on the exercise, assessing security formations and interacting with officers and men on election duty preparedness.

Addressing personnel during the visit, the Police Commissioner charged them to exhibit professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to the rule of law while carrying out their duties. He reminded them that the credibility of the electoral process rests partly on the conduct and integrity of the Police.
He reiterated that the Command remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment before, during, and after the polls. CP Orutugu also restated the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections across the federation.
During the patrol, the Commissioner inspected operational formations, police posts, and checkpoints to ensure that officers deployed were alert, well-equipped, and strategically positioned. He commended the cooperation of sister security agencies and other stakeholders for their synergy and consistent support to the Police Command.
CP Orutugu further urged residents to remain law-abiding, assuring that the Police are on top of the security situation. He encouraged members of the public to report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
