The Anambra State Police Command on Monday, 9th March held a meeting with organisers of a planned protest over persistent electricity outages and alleged overestimated billing affecting residents in the state.
The meeting, which lasted about an hour, took place at the Police Command headquarters in Awka and focused on the concerns raised by the group planning the protest tagged “Enough Is Enough.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this in a press statement noted that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Ibrahim Ezekiel, in the meeting acknowledged the concerns expressed by the group regarding electricity supply and billing issues.
He, however, advised the organisers to adopt constructive dialogue and engagement with relevant authorities responsible for electricity regulation and distribution rather than resorting to street protests that could disrupt public order.
The Command stressed the importance of using peaceful and lawful channels to address grievances and encouraged stakeholders to pursue institutional mechanisms in resolving the challenges affecting residents.
It also reassured members of the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order while promoting peaceful engagement between citizens and relevant authorities.
